Rectangular Column Tapered in X, Z-Dir Screen

For tapered columns, you have three options: Rect. Tapered in X-Dir, Rect. Tapered in Z-Dir, and Rect. With Both Tapered (X, Z-Dir). Data input is similar for all options.

At least two sections must be specified for each column. However, first define the section for the bottom of the column and add additional sections. For each section you can specify the segment height.

To enter the first column:

Note: For every column in the pier at least two cross-sections must be specified.

Input the values in the Loc from Left of Cap, Depth, Bot. Elev., and Width fields and select either linear or parabolic variation.

Click Add. It will appear in the list on the screen.

Note: Substructure will calculate the value in the Top Elev field, which is the location where the top of the column intersects the pier cap centerline. The pier cap centerline for the structural model is defined as the line connecting the center of the left end to the center of the right end of the cap.

To add additional sections for the columns:

Input the same number shown in the Top Elev field in the Dist. From Last field. Enter a new value in the Width (x) or Depth (z) field and select either linear or parabolic variation.

Click Add. The new column section will appear in the list on the screen.

Repeat this for additional column sections.

When all columns have been entered, click OK and return to the Geometry screen.

For multiple columns, to show only the current column on the screen, select the Show Current Column Location Only check box.

On the Rectangular Column Tapered in X, Z-Dir screen, you will need to enter the values in the width and depth fields for both directions..
